Squint Surgeon

Strabismus, commonly known as squint, is a condition where the eyes are not properly aligned and point in different directions. One eye may turn in, out, up, or down while the other eye looks straight ahead. This misalignment can occur all the time or intermittently and can affect one or both eyes. Strabismus can lead to double vision, reduced depth perception, and, if left untreated, amblyopia (lazy eye).

Strabismus can be present at birth or develop in childhood, but it can also occur in adults due to conditions such as stroke, head injury, or neurological disorders. The exact cause of strabismus is not always known, but it often involves a problem with the muscles that control eye movement or the nerves that transmit information to these muscles.

At Dr. Gurvinder Kaur’s clinic, we offer comprehensive evaluations to diagnose strabismus and determine the best treatment options. Treatment aims to improve eye alignment and coordination, enhance binocular vision, and prevent amblyopia. The treatment plan depends on the type and severity of strabismus and may include eyeglasses, prism lenses, eye exercises, or surgery.

For patients requiring surgical intervention, Dr. Kaur is a highly skilled squint surgeon with extensive experience in performing strabismus surgery. The surgery involves adjusting the position or tension of the eye muscles to achieve proper alignment. This procedure can be performed on children and adults and is often successful in improving eye alignment and visual function.

In addition to surgery, vision therapy exercises may be recommended to strengthen the eye muscles and improve coordination. For children, early detection and treatment of strabismus are crucial to prevent amblyopia and ensure normal visual development. Regular follow-up appointments are essential to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

Living with strabismus can be challenging, but with the right care and treatment, significant improvements in eye alignment and vision can be achieved. Our clinic is dedicated to providing personalized care for patients with strabismus, helping you achieve the best possible outcomes.
